MG Autotest Success
Saturday, 05 March 2011
Our outing on 26th June 2010 saw a fleet of MGs from all over Northern Ireland travelling up the motorway to Ballymena to attend the annual AOVC Classic Show.
We arrived very early and set up our gazebo in the static display area while sussing out the track around the Showgrounds for our exhibition autotest. The morning was fair and the day continued to improve so much that we went home after the event in summer sunshine.
The more modern MGs parked up around the track and the older J, P and T Types, together with a racing MG B GTV8 and an Austin Healey Sprite which had belonged to Paddy Hopkirk, put themselves decoratively on display on our static site.
We all had a walk around looking at and inspecting the various marques of cars, the autojumble, the model aircraft displays; and, for some, the food and ice cream stands. There certainly was something for everybody, providing a great family day out.
We were all excited and looking forward to what promised to be an absolutely excellent day. The autotest boys inspected their test drawings and adapted them to their respective cars, working out how they would throw the car to a certain point or how they would attack circling a pylon.
Even though this was an exhibition autotest, the rivalry among them was rife and each time the cars were displaying their skills the stands were full of spectators.
It was a wonderful event overall and gave us a great opportunity to promote The MG Car Club Ulster Centre.
The AOVC have once again invited us to be a part of the AOVC Classic Show this year and we are delighted to accept and looking forward to it with great anticipation.
